Improving Your Congregation’s Financial Focus
The Financial Training Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth is offering a training session for all the "money people" in the Diocese from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South, Fort Worth. This training is designed for treasurers, wardens, and clergy but bookkeepers, vestry members and assistants are encouraged to attend.
We will cover the basics of sound financial and record management for your congregation. Even experienced treasurers, wardens, and clergy will learn something new and all participants will walk away with a pile of helpful materials, checklists, and forms.
Drawing from the Manual of Business Methods in Church Affairs, the training team will review:
- canonical requirements
- bookkeeping (reports)
- audit guidelines
- insurance requirements
- records management for each congregation
- best practices regarding internal controls
- clergy discretionary funds and other clergy issues
- parochial reports
- sale and encumbrance of church property
Each congregation will receive a CD and hard copy of the Manual
Presenters
- Kennon Moffitt, Business Administrator, Church of the Annunciation, Lewisville, Texas and member of the National Association of Church Business Administrators
- Cherie Shipp, treasurer of the Diocesan Corporation and treasurer at Trinity Church, Fort Worth
- Kathleen Wells, Diocesan Chancellor
- Margaret Mieuli, treasurer at St. Christopher, Fort Worth
- Jackie Robinson, bookkeeper at Trinity Church, Fort Worth
We recommend that at least three (3) persons, including clergy, from each congregation attend.
The registration fee is $10.00 per person to help defray cost of materials and lunch. Please make your check out to the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, write "Financials Workshop" on the memo line, then mail it to the Diocesan Office. Please pre-register by Wednesday March 3. We will conclude in time to travel to St. Christopher for the Lenten Series event featuring The Rt. Rev. Steven Charleston at 5:00 pm.
