Some Resources for helping Haiti

Haiti, the poorest country in the world, is also the largest diocese, numerically speaking, in The Episcopal Church. Many dioceses in The Episcopal Church, including the Diocese of Fort Worth, send money and/or missions to Haiti.

"Episcopalians in the Diocese of Fort Worth are heartbroken at the devastation in Haiti caused by Tuesday's earthquake," said the Rt. Rev. C. Wallis Ohl, provisional bishop of Fort Worth. "Our prayers are with them. Already Fort Worth Episcopalians are sending donations to Episcopal Relief & Development to help our Haitian brothers and sisters. In the coming days our parishes and missions will be looking for other ways we may be able to help. May God's arms enfold them and hold them."

Presiding Bishop Katharyn Jefferts Schori issued this statement concerning Haiti:

The people of Haiti have suffered a devastating earthquake, and it is already clear that many have died and many more are injured. Even under "normal" circumstances, Haiti struggles to care for her 9 million people. The nation is the poorest in the western hemisphere, and this latest disaster will set back many recent efforts at development. I urge your prayers for those who have died, been injured, and are searching for loved ones – and I urge your concrete and immediate prayers in the form of contributions to Episcopal Relief & Development, who are already working with the Diocese of Haiti to send aid where it is most needed.

Episcopal Relief & Development has also released a statement and has prepared a bulletin insert.

The Episcopal Cafe reports that a number of Episcopal dioceses have ongoing partnership relationships with the Diocese of Haiti and are starting to post reports about what they're hearing from their friends.
